Rise Above Your Emotions - Be the Witness Not the Puppet

You can learn to rise above your emotions. Your feelings may be subject to the swing of the pendulum but you need not be at their mercy. The Law of Polarity itself tells you that when you are sad, know that soon you will feel happy and when you are happy remember that you were once sad. Learn to see how the two extremes of all your emotions seamlessly flow into and out of each other. Once you can see and accept this, then only can you learn to transcend the opposites and rise above your emotions.
Transcending the Law of the Opposites: The duality of your emotions may appear to be very real in your life but the Law of Polarity operates only in the physical and mental realms, to which your emotions belong, not in the spiritual realm where All is One. Your Higher Self is the key that opens the door to this spiritual realm that is above the opposites and so above your emotions. Your Higher Self is the You that is the same in kind as the One Universal Mind. It does not distinguish between good or bad, wrong or right, happy or sad. Not because it is unable to but because it has no need to. It is the eternal Observer.
Be the Witness, Not the Puppet: As the Observer, you become the witness to your experiences from above your emotions rather than the puppet flung around by the swing of the pendulum. This means that you can experience the full range of emotions and seek to learn the lesson that accompanies them, while knowing that they are all but passing illusions of your mental world. This is not the same as not having emotions. It is simply about changing your perception, which means to see your emotions from a different perspective.
Focus on the Positive and Know that the Real You is One with Omnipotence: Consciously choose to focus on the positive even when things appear to be going badly, knowing that the good will come. It must. Think, speak and act from the knowledge that you are one with the All-Powerful Universal Mind that is above the opposites and for which nothing is impossible. In the Hermetic teachings of The Kybalion, this is referred to as the Art of Mental Transmutation.
As you practice being the witness of your emotions while keeping your attention on all that is positive, then the pain associated with your negative emotions will diminish. You may even find that your positive emotions become more enjoyable as you learn to appreciate them in the moment, knowing that they too will pass. Your emotions will no longer define you. By raising your awareness above your emotions, they can become the compass for your growth rather than the boulders that knock you off course.
Life is the Beautiful Game: Learn to see life as a game. It is not the competitive aspect of the game that counts but rather the willingness to play, irrespective of whether you win or lose. When you play a game, you prepare yourself mentally and physically to do your best to win, but even if you lose you can still walk away graciously having enjoyed the game. The challenge that comes with the possibility of winning or losing makes it worth playing. Just like you wouldn't like to play a game at which you always lose, you would quickly get bored with a game at which you always win. In fact, losing is just as important as winning, and without the former you could never enjoy the latter.
Seek Love Not Happiness: In your pursuit of greater awareness, seek True Love rather than happiness. The kind of Love described here differs from the love most humans experience as an adoration for something or someone. This kind of Love cannot be compared to a state of non-love. It does not discriminate between what is loved and what is not loved. It does not have an opposite. In fact, Love in this sense is not an emotion, but rather it is the absence of all emotion. To be in a state of True Love is not to deny your emotions but rather it is to experience both ends of the spectrum and accept them both equally while being above their swing. It is to be in perfect balance.
In the Words of Khalil Gibran: Perhaps no words capture the essence of our emotions and how we experience them better than those of the great poet and writer Khalil Gibran, as expressed here in the all-time classic, The Prophet:
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find
it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth
you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board,
remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
In a nutshell, you are an emotional being and as long as you live in the physical world, you will experience emotions. Give yourself a break and let go of the idea that your search for greater awareness should release you of all unwanted "negative" emotions. You cannot choose one end of the spectrum without choosing the other. Your happiness is fleeting, as is your sadness, and both are equally important. Rather than trying to rid yourself of them, learn to rise above your emotions whereby you become their witness, not their puppet. When you become the Observer, you will experience True Love and your misguided pursuit of happiness will have been transformed into a state of perfect balance.
